Cemetery
Hydroseeding is appropriate for “American cemeteries”, which are characterised by sowing on a ‘earthlike’ substrate, with fine soil preparation and, above all, with an intense maintenance programme (mowing and fertilisation). Hydroseeding is perfectly suited to this configuration, as it provides a dense, continuous cover, since it is sown on an earthy substrate of good agronomic quality, with soil preparation. Hydroseeding will therefore make it possible to obtain a plant cover with an “intensive” strategy.
On the other hand, hydromulching can be used to establish “area management” vegetation as an alternative to Zero-Phyto. The purpose of hydromulching in this configuration is not to establish a dense, continuous plant cover, but to plant vegetation on the “substrate” in place, without adding topsoil, with the aim of managing the space by “occupying the space” with selected vegetation that will limit the establishment of undesirable and/or exogenous species. Hydromulching is therefore part of an “extensive” strategy.
Hydroseeding prices
The price of hydroseeding varies between €0.50/m² and €2.00/m² depending on the surface area to be seeded. The price varies according to the composition of the mix and the varieties used. Hydroseeding is used on substrates with good to medium agronomic value, on flat areas, with essential soil preparation. Unlike hydromulching, hydroseeding provides no protection for seeds during germination and tillering.
Hydroseeding can also be used to overseed or repair a grassed area damaged by trampling or water stress. The price of such type of overseeding using hydroseeding varies from 0.40 €/m² to 1 €/m² depending on the surface to be repaired.
Machine hire
Historically reserved for experienced professionals, hydroseeding is now accessible to everyone, whether you’re a landscape professional, a local authority or even a private individual.
Simplified hydroseeders, such as the EasySeeder, combined with pre-mixed supplies are available from hire companies. They can offer you a day’s hire with the associated supplies and advice on how to lay your lawn.
Machine price
A hydroseeder is characterised by hydraulic or mechanical mixing. A stand-alone hydroseeder with hydraulic mixing and a capacity of 700 litres costs less than €10,000 excluding VAT. This price includes the 700-litre tank with its mixing system, the HONDA petrol engine, a centrifugal pump, 30 m of hoses and application accessories.
Sports fields and leisure areas: Repair and maintenance
Sports pitches are subject to heavy stress from play (trampling and tearing) and watering, which causes stress and deterioration in the density of the cover.
Hydroseeding makes it easy to carry out localised repairs to football pitch embankments, the edges of golf course bunkers, camping sites, public parks, etc. without any major ground preparation.
Are there specific lawns for residential homes?
Residential lawns generally consist of Ray Grass or Fescue. These species are easy to sow. They provide an attractive, trample-resistant cover.
Does hydroseeding mean fewer weeds?
Hydroseeding enables a herbaceous layer (eventually of specific species) to be established more quickly and more densely, thereby limiting the development of undesirable species (weeds).
Does it require a lot of watering or an irrigation system?
Hydroseeding and the addition of fibrillar matrix can limit irrigation by storing water and limiting evaporation. Irrigation can even be avoided if hydroseeding is carried out during a favourable period, i.e. autumn or early spring.
How long does it take to prepare the soil and hydroseed?
Soil preparation varies depending on the nature of the soil and, above all, the purpose for which it is to be used. The level of preparation will be different for a golf course, a lawn or a meadow. Sowing will depend on the capacity of the equipment, which can vary from 2,000 to 20,000 m² days with a 2-person crew.
How long will it take to see the first results?
The aesthetic effect is “immediate”, and the first germination appears after about eight days in favourable weather conditions or with irrigation. The lawn will be established after an average of two months.
Is a hydroseeded lawn always green when applied?
Not necessarily, the “green” colour is a tracer that allows the applicator to visualise the areas sown. This 100% natural colour disappears after a few days.
Is hand seeding possible for small areas?
For small areas or over-seeding repairs, DRY-SEEDING is an alternative to HYDROSEEDING. This consists of applying the seeds dry, then the implantation matrix in granulated form, followed by watering to activate adhesion and the mulching effect.
Is Hydroseeding also possible in very windy conditions?
The fibrillar matrix added during hydroseeding contains adherent elements that help to “fix” the seeds to the ground.
Is Hydroseeding possible when the soil is poor?
Hydroseeding can be used to sow on poor, leached or poorly prepared soils, but the substrate needs to be “corrected” by adding a pedogenesis accelerator – in this case we would talk more about Hydromulching than Hydroseeding.
Is it necessary to cover the lawn with straw, especially in hot weather?
No, the “mulching” effect is provided by the application of EasyMulch, which contains a high proportion of plant fibres that act as temperature and humidity regulators.
